1942 | Temporary HQ for US Army Air Force |
1946 | Airfield closed |
1950’s 1960’s | Various uses as motor racing circuit, gliding club, army vehicle store |
1969 | Military camp opens |
1971 | Long Kesh Detention centre opens |
1975 | HMP Maze opens |
2000 | Closure of HMP Maze and military camp |
2003 | Transfer of ownership to NI Executive |
2005 | Minister Pearson announces proposed sports stadium plans |
2006 | Demolition of prison commences |
2009 | FM and dFM announce stadium not to proceed and state their commitment to maximise economic, historic and reconciliation potential of the site |
2010 | Legislation passed establishing MLKDC |
2012 | Demolition and remediation completed |
2012 | MLKDC becomes operational with appointment of Chair and Board |
2013 | MLKDC launch ‘Peace to Prosperity’ vision |
2013 | First Balmoral Show on site Development agreement signed with RUAS for Balmoral Park site |
2013 | Planning permission received for Peace building and Conflict Resolution Centre |
2013 | EU funding for PbCRC withdrawn |
2015 | Halftown Rd public footpath and cycleway completed |
2016 | EIKON exhibition centre completed by RUAS |
